microsoft visual studio community 2017

Installed VS 2017 Community on second computer. Tried to sign in but sign-in screen would accept no key strokes, only close screen, then exit Visual Studio. Uninstalled VS 2017 Community several times and several ways, including VISUALSTUDIOUNINSTALLER. Downloaded and installed new copies of VS 2017 Community several TIMES. Every download resulted in identical situation, notification that my 30-day trial period had expired, and unresponsive sign-in screens. Only way out was to EXIT the system. How can I make the computer forget that a previous version of VS had been installed and the trial period expired? I have, in the course of several iterations, manually deleted PACKAGE, SETUP, and 2017 folders from their respective locations. Also ran CCLEANER at one point. Always the same result. What am I doing wrong? VS 2017 Community works fine on another computer, That is registered under my email address. Am I the only one who is experiencing this situation? Thanks for your friendly response, Fred. As you already submit one feedback on the Microsoft Connect site, let's focus on the case on that channel, may our senior members can provide more professional support. If possible, you could mark it as the temporary answer, so other community members who meet the same issue could find the issue easily and help you vote the feedback. This can be beneficial to other community members reading this thread. If you have any compliments or complaints to MSDN Support, feel free to contact. Could you share a screen shot about the above result? Do you get any error or warning messages if you sign in your VS2017? How about using other email address? If it works well in other machine using the same email address, I think we would think about the specific VS2017 Environment. Could you visit the live ID site directly using this email? Do you use the same IE browser as other VS machine? This can be beneficial to other community members reading this thread. If you have any compliments or complaints to MSDN Support, feel free to contact. Thanks for the reply, Jack. When I start Visual Studio. I get the START PAGE. Your evaluation period has ended. Here is where the problem begins. I can enter no text whatsoever into either box. This works and Visual Studio closes. For what it is worth, Visual Studio worked fine on this machine before the trial period expired. I didn't know registering was required for the free package. I have another machine that is 64 bit and came with Windows 10 installed. Visual Studio is registered to my email address on that desktop machine. No problems at all there. Apparently, hidden somewhere, there is a reference to the previously installed expired package. I have just not found it yet. I still think it strange that the sign-in screen will appear but will not let me input any key strokes on it. I know lots of others have been bitten by this registration failure bug as I have. I seems like they have been able to sign in, though. Hi Fred Hatfield, Sorry for that I couldn't repro it directly since it will require 30 days trial even if I setup it. But I also discuss with other members who used the community version before, even if it was expired, we could also use it if we sign in it. I mean that we could sign in it. So it seems that the real issue is that you couldn't sign in your VS. Apparently, hidden somewhere, there is a reference to the previously installed expired package. I have just not found it yet. Did you get any error or warning messages during you re-install the VS? Did you install any other VS version except the VS2017 community? Generally it was not safe if we delete the Registry. It possible, not edit it directly later: I Just provide some suggestion, if possible, you could check it: 1 Please make sure that you installed the latest VS2017 version, you know that it has some updates. I have another machine that is 64 bit and came with Windows 10 installed. I remember that I got one issue before which was related to the windows since it was update from the old windows version, and then got the VS IDE usage issue in the updated windows. I know that it was not good suggestion if I suggest you re-install your windows with the latest system directly, but if your different windows use the same IE browser and network, but just this windows has this issue, and you didn't get any VS setup error before, I suggest you think about your windows. Of course, if you have the system restore point, as a workaround is that just restore it to the date when the VS was not expired, sign in it again under VS help menu. Hope it could help you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading this thread. If you have any compliments or complaints to MSDN Support, feel free to contact. Yes, Jack, the real issue is that I cannot sign into VS 2017 Community once the message appeared that my trial period had expired. Before that, the Visual Basic portion worked perfectly and nothing has changed. I use Edge as the browser and always download from the Microsoft web page. As long as others have been able to sign in after the license expiration, then I seem to be doing the right things. Since this is only of academic interest another computer works fine, I just bugs me that I can't figure this out it is time to let go of the issue and quit wasting time on it. Thanks for your interest and suggestions. I don't know anything about system restore points. I was raised in the DOS days and have not caught up with many of the advances in the new technology. Thanks again for your time. I am going to close this thread if that is what you do in a case like this. Best regards, Jack Fred, Zanesville, OH Hi Fred Hatfield, Do you get the real issue like the following screen shot? If you click Sign in, could you share a screen shot about it? Please also make sure that it was not the IE settings issue like the script option or trust site. But if still no help, no good suggestion except think about the windows Environment. This can be beneficial to other community members reading this thread. If you have any compliments or complaints to MSDN Support, feel free to contact. Since it works well in other VS community machines, I still feel that it was related to this specific windows Environment, did you install certain extension tools or add-ins in your side? Would you mind report this issue to the VS2017 product team? You could report it using the VS2017 report feedback tool under Help menu, since it works well in other VS machine, I think you could report this feedback to our product team using the VS in other VS machine. This can be beneficial to other community members reading this thread. If you have any compliments or complaints to MSDN Support, feel free to contact. Left-clicking on the text boxes did not select either of them so still could not enter account, email of password information. I did a right-click on a text box with the thought of seeing the source code for the screen and only had an option of SELECT ALL. When I chose it I could type in an account number over top of the greyed-out text that was there. That disappeared when I hit SIGN IN, so it didn't really accept the data, so that was useless. I have not added any extensions or add-ins that I know of. Only automatic updates as they come along. I will try to report the issue as you suggested using another computer. Thanks again for all your thoughts and patience. Fred Thanks for your friendly response, Fred.
